The Problem

The problem with sustainability training isn't curriculum, and it isn't trainers. It's engagement. Sustainability is a habit-level problem that is typically approached from an academic standpoint alone.

Participants sit through structured sessions with clear objectives and established methodologies — and disengage. The format isn't wrong. It just isn't enough on its own.

What ALT Does Differently

ALT is built around micro consumer choices across five lifestyle categories: Home, Work, Leisure, Food, and Miscellaneous. Players manage carbon and cost scores simultaneously, strategically handle unsustainable choices, and compete directly with other players.

Unlike most sustainability games which are cooperative and facilitator-heavy, ALT is player-versus-player. The competitive mechanics — particularly the take-that action cards — create genuine strategic tension. Players have to recalibrate and adapt as the game progresses.

01Player-versus-player

Competitive mechanics create genuine tension. Players face real trade-offs between carbon efficiency and cost management, mirroring the actual complexity of sustainable decision-making.

02Five lifestyle categories

Home, Work, Leisure, Food, and Miscellaneous. The breadth ensures participants engage with sustainability across the full surface area of their lives, not just the obvious ones.

03Dual-score management

Carbon and cost scores run simultaneously. The focus is on finding a strategy that allows for both carbon and cost optimization.

Built for Institutional Scale

ALT doesn't replace your existing sustainability program. It enhances it. Whether the context is a sustainability training workshop, a CSR training day, a college or school awareness program, or an NGO community session — ALT fits inside the existing structure as the engagement layer that enables the rest of the session.

With 30 decks, organisations running cohorts of 150-180 participants can cover the entire group across the same session.
